In 2017, the founders of the Livepeer project formed a company called Livepeer, Inc. to help facilitate its early development, bootstrap the network’s supply and demand sides, and guide the project’s path to decentralization. Livepeer is a decentralized video streaming network designed to decentralize live video broadcasts over the internet. It was created on the Ethereum blockchain. With the help of its Livepeer Media Server (LPMS) software, existing broadcasters and developers of decentralized applications (dApps) can incorporate live video capability into their programs. LPMS is an open-source implementation of a media server. LPT, an ERC-20 token, serves as the Livepeer network's protocol token. Livepeer network users who want to undertake validation tasks must stake LPT. LPT can be kept in a custodian and cryptocurrency wallet.
